ReadWriteServe's Student-to-Student Programs bring UNC Charlotte college-students to partner schools and community organizations in the Charlotte region seeks to tutor K-12 students. These programs include tutoring opportunities for Work Study students, Volunteers, and tutors in Course Clinicals.

Work Study Tutors in the America Reads program earn Federal Work Study money, a form of financial aid, by tutoring K-5 learners at our tutoring sites. All Work Study funds must be approved by the Office of Financial Aid at UNC Charlotte. We cannot hire students who do not have Work Study funding. New tutors must attend a Work Study orientation meeting conducted by the Student Employment Office. Work Study students interested in becoming an America Reads tutor must attend a Work Study orientation and complete a brief RWS interest form. We will invite all interested Work Study students to complete an online application. After reviewing the online application, we select students to become America Reads tutors. Volunteer Tutors--UNC Charlotte faculty, staff and students--can contact the United Way of Central Carolinas and sign up to tutor through the Project 1,000 program. The Center for Adolescent Literacies provides training and support for Project 1,000 tutors. For more information check out the Project 1,000 website or the ReadWriteServe Tutoring website.
